Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary Develops detailed design drawings and related specifications of mechanical equipment by performing the following duties.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design and factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts.

Uses  computer aided design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.

Prepares system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.

Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.

Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation to various  parts to whole structure of project.

Designs mechanical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes.

Occasional travel may be required.

Will be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and/or repair of electrical/mechanical products.

Estimates material usage and additionally creates bill of materials for design products.

Follows and contributes to processes designed for consistent engineering.

Education and/or Experience

2 or 4 year Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, Engineering or similar degree. Fabrication equipment operation and CNC programming experience a definite plus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Manufacturing software; Solidworks software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
