Field Safety Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Field Safety Manager (FSM) has overall responsibility for safety program development, leadership, management and safety oversight and supporting the safety effort at project sites. This is a highly visible position in which the FSM will be continuously involved with the work being performed and is an integral part of the site project team. The FSM will be ‘where the work is’ on an ongoing basis. The FSM has a reasonability to conduct their behavior on or off the site in a way that is respectful, supportive and co-operative to colleagues, members and external contacts whether it is on phone through e-mail or in person.  The position will be located at the AZZ SMS office in St. Petersburg, FL with travel 40-75% of the time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborating with the onsite clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and others in a respectful and professional manner to focus on driving the AZZ SMS Safety Culture

  • Provides technical guidance to management, and division personnel, regarding relevant occupational health and safety practices such as the correct use of personal protective equipment, respiratory protection
  • Gather, control, and analyze safety data using technology and tools to enable proactive programs and incident avoidance measures.

  • Providing leadership, supporting and providing direction to all field site personnel to enable the goal of zero incidents.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies that reduce the risk of accidents. Determines what policies are needed and how to enforce them.
  • Collaborating effectively and aligning with site personnel to drive the a high performing safety culture

  • Investigating incidents and facilitating Root Cause Analysis’ as required.

  • Quickly assessing incidents to determine immediate actions and response.

  • In charge of inspecting site conditions to determine if hazards are present and to establish procedures and policies to overcome those hazardous situations.

  • Maintains safety files and records. Completes all required forms and paperwork
  • Develops job specific safety plans.
  • Collect and Review Safety Data to Predict and Prevent Future Incidents.
  • Conduct safety investigation to determine root causes and then revise or implement policies, procedures, or work practices to eliminate reoccurrences.
  • Conducts Health & Safety audits at job sites Insure that field operations comply with OSHA and other applicable regulatory agencies
  • Interact and provide data, proposals, and reports to AZZ SMS Leadership Teams.
  • Proactively and expediently communicate incidents to AZZ Leadership.
  • Own, Manage, and Maintain AZZ SMS Field Safety Work Processes, Standards, Procedures, Data, and Tools.
  • Work closely with the sites and contractors to address and correct Safety inefficiencies, Institute additional programs and processes to address gaps.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides formal supervision to employees AZZ Field Safety Representatives. Provides technical guidance in regards to safety and health to employees, colleagues, and/or customers. Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff. Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; combination of education and experience may be considered

  • OSHA 10 and 30 Construction

  • A positive attitude and demonstrated competency to deliver World Class Safety.

  • Demonstrated record of high performance with minimum 7 years of direct Industrial Construction Safety experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership, integrity and interpersonal skills.

  • Possess a strong commitment to employee involvement, team building, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals, CSP Certified Safety Professional, ASP-Associate Safety Professional

  • Institute for Safety & Health Management, CSHM-Certified Safety & Health Manager

  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals, CHST-Construction Health and Safety Technician

  • OSHA Academy, Occupational Safety and Health Professional, Occupational Safety and Health Manager,

  • First Aid, CPR: CPR First Aid Instructor Certification

  • Confined Space Supervisor and Rescue

  • Crane (Lift Planning)
