Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the review and evaluation of the customers’ specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work.  Prepares Request for Quote/Billing of Material (RFQ/BOM) for submittal to approved vendors and evaluates the vendors’ proposals.  Compiles project cost estimates for labor, material and overhead for projects.  Includes interfacing with customers and customers’ representatives, as well as working directly with AZZ’s Sales, Purchasing and Project Management team members.  Responsible for the timely submittal of bid tabulation form to the appropriate Account Manager for submittal to the customer.  

EDUCATION, CERTIFCATIONS, LICENCES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in related area preferred.  2 year technical degree and/or equivalent years of experience. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience

  • Prior experience in estimating electrical construction projects

  • Experience entering project information into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Experience with Salesforce, a plus

  • Desirable to have custom engineer-to-order experience

  • Strong mathematical, analytical and conceptual skills, balanced by ability to apply common sense

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Strong negotiation, verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to review job specifications and contracts upon award

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Maintains up-to-date Salesforce Data system and bid list.

  • Downloads/uploads bidding information.

  • Reviews all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and applies to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.).

  • Submits requests (RFIs) for estimating questions by deadline.

  • Performs material take off.

  • Distributes qualification documents as required for the bid (Minority Owned and Women Owned Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE), experience, key individuals, etc.) Develops a detailed proposal letter or bid form.

  • Updates estimate to project upon award.

  • Generates award documents for review.

  • Identifies areas of importance (milestones, liquidated damages, etc.) of a project and relays to sales team.

  • Reviews purchase orders, subcontracts and contracts for accuracy.

  • Assures complete and thorough pre-manufacture planning and distribution of all documents in accordance with the pre-manufacture process.

  • Facilitates a scope review with the Project Manager and Electrical Designers.

  • Attends kick-off meeting.

  • Estimates change order costs for Account Manager to prepare and submit the request to the customer.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Sitting, standing, walking, and ability to travel. Primarily office environment but will also include some manufacturing shop environment that is not air-conditioned.
