Job Description


Working under the direction of the Materials Manager, the Buyer will be primarily responsible for the re-sourcing and the procurement of expensed component parts and other necessary operating supplies, for receipt in a timely manner in support of day-to-day Plant Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned):

A. Develops cost savings/cost increases avoidance data and submit monthly for review.

B. Develops RFQ packages, to ensure the development of long term purchase agreements with selected suppliers and enhance AZZ profitability and values.

C. Develops and ensures all elements of the purchase commitment are completed with proper required approvals

D. Manages system maintenance to the Vendor Quotation file, to ensure appropriate price quotations for all items.

E. Reviews all requisitions to ensure that items meet the order requirements and that the quoted estimated delivery date meets the requirements of the production schedule.

F. Expedites the delivery of purchases as necessary to achieve production and customer demands.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (list below, if applicable):



  1. Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Finance or field equivalent business required with a minimum of three years’ experience in the purchasing preferably in manufacturing or equivalent.   
  2. Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: NAPM Certification or the desire to participate in the certifications program would be a plus.
  3. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to handle multiple projects and other daily assigned tasks in a timely fashion. Requires good organizational skills and must be a self-starter.  
  4. Equipment Used: Ability to use office equipment including (computer, telephone, calculator, copier and calculator) and office software suite and other programs/systems that require management involvement and oversight.
  5.  Language Skills: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate and present complex details both verbally and in written form.
  6. Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate percentages, interpret graphs, basic statistical data, discounts and commissions.
  7. Reasoning Ability: Ability to organize, plan and prioritize data including the interpretation of a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Inductive and deductive reasoning, selective attention, sound judgment and decision making. Critical thinking ability and complex problem solving skills.
  8. Attendance Requirement:  Full time with flexibility as needed.
  9. Travel Requirement:  This position may occasionally require mobility and travel up to 15%.
  10. Physical Demands:  Time is spent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, and bending. Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.  Must be able to see at close range and perform repetitive hand/arm motions.
  11. Work Environment: Primarily air conditioned office. Approximately 10% of work activities in field operations/plants.
