General Description:

It is expected that the Associate Project Manager will support planning processes which includes developing scope, schedule, and cost baselines, as well as, planning and execution of projects to quoted time schedules and profit margins to include technical and commercial review of all work scope opportunities.  Track and resource open actions to meet commitments and properly closing a project through document management and archiving.  Perform final project quality assessment and report out.  Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, lessons learned and risk avoidance for future work.

The Associate Project Manager will also provide support to other Project Managers within the team on large scope projects.  Primary tasks will include liaison to Engineering Group and tracking of equipment development, mockup testing of all new equipment, generation and obtaining Quality Assurance approval of work control documentation, crew technical training and site work/task scheduling.


BS/BA degree, preferably in Engineering, Science or Business/Project; or equivalent project management experience.

Basic working knowledge of project management supporting complex, multi-functional projects; 3-7 years' of experience.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).

  • Organization and planning.

  • Positive attitude and planning.

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project).

  • Strong technical aptitude; prior mechanical repair experience preferred.

  • Project Management training a plus.

  • Financial planning and management experience preferred.

  • Background in welding processes / mechanical modifications is preferred.

  • Quality Assurance documentation experience; familiarity with Work and Traveler packages a plus.

Essential Duties:

  • Dependent on size and complexity of project scope, assist with field implementation phase of the project at the customer site.

  • Provide support to the Project manager for tasks related to project preparedness and readiness to go onsite.

  • Resolve technical issues that arise on the project to ensure the project meets technical and quality standards.  Interface with site Engineering/Word Planning Groups for field design resolution.

  • Facilitate preparations for customer mockups and equipment demonstrations.

  • Perform pre-job technical planning and work scheduling for the assigned projects.  Provide equipment design input to Engineering and closely track equipment development and testing until validated and ready for field deployment. 

  • Prepare work instructions and work control travelers for assigned projects.

  • Review project designs, construction and fabrication drawings.

  • Plan and participate in final project "readiness review" to verify that the project is ready to go to the job sites for field implementation phase.

  • Support/own the P&L responsibility for the assigned project portfolio to include bid preparation, contract closure, and project delivery, to meet AZZ Specialty Welding overall business commitments to stakeholders.

  • Regular reporting to management regarding project revenue forecasting, sales closure activity, and project delivery (operations) status for the assigned (or supporting) projects portfolio.

  • Support the bid proposal process and operational delivery process through use of in-house resources, as needed, to fulfill customer requirements and achieve target profit goals for all projects.

  • Support the preparation of commercial proposals prior to delivery to the customer to ensure the following:

    • Proposal content is complete and accurate

    • Technical accuracy for the work scope stated

    • Cost estimate is accurate and includes stakeholder input

  • Develop project delivery schedules required to meet customer commitments.  Monitor and report on performance of all project with regard to quality, cost, schedule and customer satisfaction.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

General office environment, sitting for long periods at a computer. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 30 lbs.


Full Time


As required, estimated up to 10-20%; commensurate with customer and position requirements to perform job responsibilities, to include but not limited to, construction sites.
